Camp Descriptions (Ages 7-10)


Summer Camp Logo 2016

The Rising Star Series - 9am-4pm (Ages 7-10): These week-long camps are perfect for the dramatic and imaginative youngsters! Each week there will be a theme to guide the activities, crafts, scenes, scripts, songs and games for that week of camp. Full day campers will be able to experience two themes in one day for a double dose of fun. Morning camps have a theater arts focus and afternoon camps work with visual arts. Final Showcase on Fridays for every camp!  

Full Day Enrollment—$150/week

Ages 7-10: Rising Stars Series - Full and Half Day Camps (9 AM – 4 PM)

Young Artist Series

Week 1: June 18 – June 22

Musical Theatre Mayham – 9am-Noon –What will it take to give your performer a little more of an edge? Musical Theater is all about becoming a triple threat! This week we will work on SINGING, DANCING, and ACTING to give your Rising Star the upper hand!

Stranger Things – 1pm-4pm This week of art camp will be all about strange and unusual art forms.   

 Week 2: June 25 – June 29

Disney Mania – 9am-Noon Campers will work with their favorite Disney songs and characters to learn the fundamentals of singing and dancing! Build confidence and coordination to the tunes of Moana, Lion King, Little Mermaid and more! The Friday showcase will be a Disney mashup that the whole family will enjoy.

Rock and Roll Art Camp – 1-4pm – This rock inspired art camp is for the musician in all of us. In this fun and crafty camp, all the art projects will be able to make music in some way. At the end of the week, we will form our Rock and Roll Art Band to create a song using our handmade instruments.  

 Week 3: July 9 – July 13

Galaxy Far Far Away – 9am-Noon –Once upon a time in a Galaxy Far Far Away there were creative young campers that gathered for a week of fantastical fun! With special guest instructors from the UNCW Saber Fitness Club, campers will learn how to stage combat their mortal enemy, Darth Vader!

Magical Muggles– 1pm-4pm Still waiting for your Hogwarts letter? So are we! This camp will be for us muggles ready to learn some magic! Step onto platform 9 ¾ and travel to Hogwarts where we will make our own wands, play quidditch, craft potions and get sorted into Houses. Let the magic begin!

Week 4: July 16 – July 20

Broadway Mashup – 9am-Noon This camp will be for the Broadway lover! Sing, dance and act scenes from your favorite Broadway hits!  This camp will sure to get your young performer ready for the next big show. The Friday's Show and Share will include full ensemble dance numbers from our favorite Broadway Musicals!

Comic Book Adventures – 1pm-4pm -

 Week 5: July 23 – July 27

You’re the Next Contestant – 9am-Noon – You’re the Next Contestant will be an acting camp using popular talent shows to help guide the daily activities. Campers will learn how to audition in front of “judges” and how to think quickly on their feet using improv skills. Learn how to make strong character choices in this creative acting class to see if you have what it takes to be the next Creative Arts Camp Idol!

Film Camp – 1pm-4pm Lets make a movie! This week we will write, act and film our own movie and music video! The videos will be featured on the Arts Center Website and the short film submitted into the Cucalorus Festival!

 Week 6: July 30 – August 3

TACT preview camp – 9am-Noon This camp will be perfect for your TACT performer. Campers will get a little taste of 2018-2019 season of TACT with songs and scenes from all the upcoming youth productions! Friday's Show and Share will be an as entertaining as the season itself!

Orange Street Pottery Camp – 1-4pm Our 4th Summer of Pottery! Campers will learn the basics of ceramics in this afternoon camp! All campers will walk away with their very own completed piece of pottery.  Supply fee of $10.

Broadway on Second Street – 2 week Production Camp  (9am – 4pm)

This 2 week, full day camp will be an amazing opportunity for your performer to participate in a full children's theater production from start to finish. We will have a limited number of spots available. The first day of camp will be your audition and parts will be assigned at the beginning of the 2nd day of camp.

Each day will consist of character development, music direction, chorography, staging and more. There will be guest instructors in order to enhance the student’s knowledge of acting techniques. Teaming up with local theater professionals makes this is a unique opportunity for both seasoned actors and new-comers to learn from the very best. The final weekend production will be open to the public with performances on Friday and Saturday at 7pm.

Session 1: June 18 – June 29 (Ages 7-15) ONLY 35 SPOTS

The Jungle Book – (Ages 7-15)

The Jungle Book follows the story of Mowgli, a boy who has been raised by wolves in the jungle. When the wolves hear that the fierce tiger, Shere Kahn, is nearby, they decide to send Mowgli to a local "man tribe".  Join us this  summer  as we meet  tons of unforgettable characters and rock the jungle with songs that everyone will enjoy!

Shows Dates: Friday June 29 and Saturday June 30 at 7:00 pm

Session 2: July 9 – July 20 (Ages 8-16) ONLY 35 SPOTS

Cinderella –  (Ages 8-16)

The classic fairytale that everyone loves will come to life this summer on the 2nd Street Stage with an adaption of Cinderella. Cinderella, a once a happy young girl living with her mother and father, finds herself being treated like a maid by her evil step mother and step-sisters. Luckily her Fairy Godmother is going to help her turn things around!

Shows Dates: Friday July 20 and Saturday July 21 at 7:00 pm

Our Management

The Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center is managed by the staff of the The Thalian Association, the Official Community Theater of North Carolina.

The Thalian Association is a non-profit, membership organization founded in 1788 to provide arts education and bring the excitement of the performing arts to Wilmington. The organization has its offices and holds auditions at the Community Arts Center.  The Center also hosts the Thalian Children's Theater classes and performances.
